I have obtained the most obscure of the Keanu library to date. To get The Night Before in Region 2 format I had to buy a German DVD from an American seller on Amazon. Well, it works and now I’m watching Eine Verruckte Reise Durch Die Nacht. An early Keanu. He looks fabulous: fresh faced, wide eyed, and he speaks in that lovely soft voice of his. But the cover of this DVD is worth noting. First, it’s in one of those bizarre illustrated images typical of 1980′s American films. Goofy, brash, and trying to tell the entire story in one image. But this one is unique because it was issued in the 2000′s and it uses Keanu’s later success to sell this film. Look closely: under Keanu it reads in parentheses “(Speed).” And under Reeves it reads “(Matrix).”
What’s strange is the movie seems like a mix of dreams and memory flash backs to tell the story of a boy who takes a girl to the prom and it all goes wrong for him. We meet him the morning after…
This might be the best one yet…..
